FRESH WET DATES IMPORTER & Wholesaler IN NAVI MUMBAI AND MUMBAI

Fresh, wet dates are usually harvested at the Rutab stage—when they are semi-ripe, high in moisture, and incredibly soft—or they are varieties naturally known for retaining a high syrup content even when fully ripe.

Here are the most popular types of fresh, wet dates known for their juicy, melt-in-your-mouth textures:

  • Kabkab Dates: Originating primarily from Iran, these are large, amber-to-brown dates that are exceptionally syrupy and sweet. Because of their very high moisture content, they are sticky, fleshy, and highly popular for both fresh eating and commercial processing.
  • Rotana Rutab: Harvested early at the semi-ripe stage, these dates are often distinctively two-toned (half golden-yellow, half brown). They have a delicate, creamy texture with notes of caramel. Because they are picked wet, they must be kept refrigerated or frozen to prevent spoiling.
  • Mazafati (Kimia): A famous dark brown to almost black Iranian date. They are the quintessential "wet" date, packing anywhere from 15% to 35% moisture. They are exceptionally soft, sweet, and are usually sold in small, tightly packed boxes.
  • Sukari (Soft/Wet): Meaning "sugar" in Arabic, Sukari dates are golden-brown and cone-shaped. While they can be dried, the fresh, soft variety is prized for a texture that literally melts like a sugar cube in the mouth.
  • Barhi: While famously eaten in their crunchy, yellow Khalal stage, Barhi dates that are allowed to ripen into the wet Rutab stage become incredibly soft. They have very fragile skins and a distinct, rich butterscotch flavor.
  • Medjool (Fresh): Though often sold semi-dried, freshly harvested Medjools are plump, exceptionally juicy, and have a rich, maple-syrup-like flavor profile.

Because of their high water and syrup content, wet dates are much more perishable than standard dried dates (Tamar) and generally require cold storage to maintain their quality and prevent fermentation.
